Girl Brain was created as part of a collection of artwork for Dawn’s wedding. The venue was a beautiful period property and she endeavoured to create something that reflected it. Inspired by the Renaissance style portraiture she’d created with the dark setting, Dawn decided to add a brighter and bolder backdrop giving the artwork a real vigour and burst of colour. The portraits were created as the voyeurs and additional guests at the wedding!
Dawn’s artwork is created in many different ways: from hand drawn, old magazine and book images to stock and personal photos scanned in and digitally worked into. She uses layering techniques to create complex compositions and scenes. Dawn gets the art printed onto canvas and directly works into them, drawing over images, adding paint, ink, glitter - whatever she thinks works to get the desired image she is after.
